Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to B&amp;H Olav Reinertsen said today in Sarajevo that free media and investigative journalism are one of the most important pillars for any democracy, including Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Ambassador Reinertsen, as a participant in the roundtable on "Fairplay Rules in Public Finances", organized by the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIN), said that in his country, a key role in ensuring free media and democracy falls on the government itself.
The ambassador stated that two documents prepared by C&amp;N would be presented at the roundtable. The first is about the benefits and privileges of elected representatives in B&amp;H, and the second is about employment in the civil service, public institutions and advisory positions.
-It is very important to look at the conclusions of these two studies, but also to follow the recommendations contained in these reports- said Ambassador Reinertsen.
An MP in the House of Representatives of the B&amp;H Parliamentary Assembly Saša Magazinović, as one of the panelists, said that this was the first time that an NGO opened numerous controversial topics in this manner, "not in a way to widen the gap between the governmental and non-governmental sector, but to open a dialogue".
-Also, we have to pose a question whether advisors are needed in this scope and whether maybe assistant ministers should be the ones who will be politically appointed, then we do not need advisors at all. Do we elect directors of public companies at competitions to satisfy the form alone, and are the best ones really being selected- stated Magazinović.

He also asked whether separate living benefits is really what it says it is 'separate living', do people who have different privileges, apartments at their disposal, are they really in those apartments, or maybe some of those apartments are being rented?".

-By opening a dialogue in this way on fair play in public financial management, we can take one big step. In addition to this necessary reconciliation between the non-governmental and governmental sectors and joint cooperation in better management of public funds, we as politicians can begin to restore the trust of citizens and show that politics has a human face- concluded Magazinović.
CIN Director Lejla Bičakčić said that the participants in the roundtable will focus on the different ways in which public funds are spent, "very often non-transparently, without any control and very often for purposes that may not be necessary."
She noted that CIN has been working on investigative stories on topics such as these ones for years, monitoring public money flows and the ways in which public money is spent.
According to her, an initiative has been launched to finally start discussing ways of better controlling public spending, to finally show that politics has a rational approach to spending public money, to work responsibly in the interest of citizens.
-The state budget at all levels can be used in an extremely efficient way and provide sufficient funds for all the needs we have in B&amp;H, especially during the pandemic- said Bičakčić.

The Central Election Commission of B&amp;H confirmed at a press conference at midnight that Boris Jerinić (SNSD) and Mladen Grujičić a joint candidate of ethnic Serb political parties won the most votes in the repeat elections for mayor of Doboj and mayor of Srebrenica.

As the president of the CEC, Željko Bakalar, explained, the votes from Sunday's elections were included in the total, as well as those from November last year from the polling stations where the elections were not annulled.
Thus, for the mayor of Doboj, where 96 out of 106 polling stations were processed, Boris Jerinić (SNSD) received the most votes, 67.44 percent, followed by Srđan Todorović (Socialist Party) 16.36 percent, and Cvijan Filipović (SDS) 16.20 percent.
Pro-Bosnian parties boycotted Sunday's elections in Srebrenica and announced an appeal to the B&amp;H Constitutional Court.
The results for the Doboj City Assembly and the Srebrenica Municipal Assembly will be announced this morning.
Among other information, Bakalar stated that the turnout on Sunday was 55.43 percent of voters in Doboj and 42.87 percent in Srebrenica.
All polling stations were closed at 7 pm, except for three in Doboj, which were closed a little later due to delays in opening.
Bakalar also said that the CEC did not receive any complaints about violations of the election process, and three were sent to the City Election Commission in Doboj. Also, the RS Ministry of the Interior constantly informed the CEC about the situation on the ground, and there was no information about the threat to the election process, except for one case of violation of public order and peace.

Britain's Prince Charles visited his father Philip in hospital on Saturday as the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II remains in hospital as a precaution after feeling ill earlier in the week.

Prince Philip, who turns 100 on June 10, was admitted on Tuesday. Sources say his admission was not coronavirus-related, and that Philip remains in good spirits.

Lockheed Martin co, the United States’ largest weapons maker, has fielded interest from Croatia regarding the purchase of stealthy F-35 jets, a Lockheed executive said on Friday.

Greg Ulmer, the executive vice president of Lockheed’s Aeronautics unit, told reporters, “they’ve shown interest” in buying the jets, which are a big part of Lockheed’s revenue.
A representative from the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Washington said “we are evaluating an offer of the new U.S. F-16 Block 70/72 aircraft, together with some other responses to our tender for a multi-role fighter aircraft, new or used,” but did not address the F-35.
Croatia is evaluating U.S., French and Swedish offers for fighter jets as it looks to modernize its air force, which now flies Russian-made MiG-21 jets dating from its past within the former Yugoslavia.
Croatia wanted to buy 12 used F-16 fighter jets from Israel, but it fell through after Israel said here in 2019 it could not get approval from the United States for the sale.
Other international customers for the fifth-generation F-35 include Canada, Finland, and Switzerland, which are running competitions for a future jet purchase. Additional customer prospects for Lockheed’s F-35 include Greece, Spain, Eastern European and Middle Eastern countries, Ulmer said in a media conference call.
Lockheed has also seen international interest for as many as 300 of its fourth-generation F-16 fighter jets on top of the current production backlog of 128 jets, Ulmer said.

The EU's foreign policy chief on Saturday condemned increasingly deadly violence in Myanmar, after two protesters were killed as security forces fired live rounds, and said the bloc will "take appropriate decisions".

-I strongly condemn the violence against peaceful civilian protestors by the military. I urge the military and all security forces in Myanmar to immediately stop violence against civilians- Josep Borrell, the EU's high representative and vice president, tweeted.
He said a meeting in Brussels of EU foreign ministers on Monday "will discuss... the latest events in Myanmar to take appropriate decisions".
His comments came after security forces in Myanmar's second city of Mandalay fired live ammunition and rubber bullets at protesters demonstrating against the country's junta, which deposed civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi in a February 1 coup. Two people were killed, including a boy shot in the head, emergency workers said.
The European Commission on Thursday had already reacted to the death of another protester fatally shot in the head with a live round during a demonstration on February 9.
A spokeswoman called for a "transparent" investigation into that death so that "those responsible answer for their acts".
A senior EU official said the EU ministers' meeting on Monday was expected to move towards sanctioning Myanmar military officers.

Iraq said Saturday that restrictions imposed by the government to curb the spread of coronavirus will not affect Pope Francis’ visit to the country on March 5.

On Thursday, the Iraqi government declared a two-week partial curfew across the country with the exception of the Kurdish region in an effort to contain a sudden surge in COVID-19 infections. The measures include suspending attending to schools, sports activities, and closure of mosques and parks.
The restrictions are scheduled to be lifted on March 4, amid reports that the precautionary measures may be extended.
Speaking to the official Iraqi News Agency, Ismail al-Hadidi, an adviser to the Iraqi president, ruled out postponing Pope Francis’ trip to Iraq.
-Measures to welcome the pontiff are underway as planned- al-Hadidi said.
Pope Francis is scheduled to visit Iraq on March 5-8, his first-ever visit to the country. The pontiff’s schedule includes visiting Najaf, where he will meet with top Shia cleric Ali al-Sistani. He will also visit the capital Baghdad, Erbil and Nineveh.
Iraq has so far registered 661,477 virus cases, including 13,232 fatalities.

The newly appointed US Secretary of State, Antony J. Blinken sent a letter to the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković.

In the letter, Blinken points out that, as Secretary of State, he is looking forward to cooperating with Turković and the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina on deepening the partnership and advancing common interests.

Every Tuesday evening, Moroccan student Chaimae Irfaq hands out food parcels to dozens of hard-up students in the foyer of her Paris university residence, and takes one home for herself.Irfaq arrived in France in October to complete her business studies degree and had expected to work part-time jobs to supplement the 700 euros a month her father gives her.
But she said the coronavirus crisis meant there were few jobs going, with bars and restaurants closed and businesses feeling the pinch from COVID-19 restrictions.
-If I had work I wouldn’t need the (handouts)- she said as she volunteered for the charity Les Restos du Coeur (Restaurants of the Heart).
In her parcel there is rice, pasta, dairy products, fruit, vegetables and some meat. Once a month, shampoo and sanitary products are added.
Students around the world have been hit by a lack of the part-time jobs, including as baristas, waiters and shop workers, many rely on to pay tuition fees, rent and living expenses.

The half-dozen charities distributing food in Paris say the number of students seeking help has jumped since the government put France back under lockdown and then a nightly curfew late last year. Tens of thousands of food parcels are handed out each week in the greater Paris region alone and it is a similar situation elsewhere, they say.The government has extended a publicly-funded scheme providing one-euro meals to those on grants and made it available to all students. Irfaq said she arrived in Paris dreaming of enriching encounters in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. Instead she has been left following lectures online from the confines of her small room.

-To be honest, during the whole week, I’m just waiting for Tuesday to come around. It changes my routine a bit- she said.
The combination of remote-learning and curfew, which runs from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., was taking a heavy toll on the mental well-being of her and her friends, Irfaq said.
Three in every four French students felt alone some or all of the time, one opinion poll showed last month.

Students have protested against a government they say has abandoned them. Government spokesman Gabriel Attal this week said the poorest students had received emergency grants, money had been released for psychological counselling and the president wanted all students to be able to attend lectures in person one day a week.

Officers of the Foča Public Safety Center (CJB) conducted an investigation this morning at the location of the Aladža Mosque complex in Foča, after an unknown person fired shots at the minaret of this religious and historical monument. 

The incident was reported to the police by Bosniak returnees who heard gunshots the night before, and then noticed damage to the mosque, as pieces of concrete fell from the minaret.
The investigation was also attended by the Mufti of Goražde, Remzija effendi Pitić, with the imams.

The Court of B&amp;H pronounced a verdict today at 12 o'clock by which Osman Mehmedagić, the director of ISA, and Muhamed Pekić, an employee of this agency, are acquitted of all charges of the Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H.
The verdict was made immediately after the closing arguments, which were held this morning at 9 AM.
However, the Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H announced that they will appeal.

Senka Nožica, the lawyer of ISA director Osman Mehmedagić, gave a statement to the reporters after the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina acquitted the director of ISA.
- Throughout this whole procedure, objectively, they wanted to do some damage, great damage to one of the important institutions of B&amp;H, and that is the Intelligence and Security Agency of B&amp;H. I must say that Judge Perić said absolutely everything. One war, one political hunt was fought here, through the Court against our client. Here the goal was to exclude him from his job. Judge Perić probably knows a little more than me about the interests of which political groups - said, among other things, Nožica.

B&amp;H Council of Ministers Chairman Zoran Tegeltija told reporters after a meeting with EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson that they discussed all issues regarding the relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union, as well as the process of B&amp;H's accession to the EU "as one of our most important issues".

The officials also discussed procurement of vaccines and the agreement on the joint process of procurement of vaccines between the EU and B&amp;H.
The key topic of Commissioner Johansson's talks with the Chairman of the B&amp;H Council of Ministers and his deputies, Minister Bisera Turković and Minister Vjekoslav Bevanda, was migration.
-There is a great degree of agreement between Commissioner Johansson and us when it comes to attitudes regarding migration. The Commissioner informed us about the new plan for migration and migration management, which is in the phase of harmonization in the European Commission- stated Tegeltija.
Also, Tegeltija stated, they agree that migrations are a process that lasts constantly, "but it must not take place spontaneously and without control".
-Our position is that B&amp;H bears too much burden of the crisis, given its size and population, and that there is a much larger number of migrants on the territory of B&amp;H, especially in the winter than B&amp;H can objectively accept- pointed out Chairman of the Council of Ministers of B&amp;H.
According to him, the key for solving the problem of migration is border controls, readmission of those who do not meet the conditions to receive international protection, but have the right to humanitarian aid.
Tegeltija points out that it is not possible for B&amp;H alone to provide protection at its borders, but that other countries should protect their borders before the migrants come at the B&amp;H border.
EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson stressed that the EU remains a close and reliable partner of B&amp;H on its European path. She emphasized the significant progress that had been made, and in that context mentioned the steps towards the adoption of public procurement legislation.
She said that during the talks, they focused mostly on migration and security issues. She mentioned that she recently presented a new pact on migration and asylum at the EU level, which should mark a new beginning in this area, adding that it is necessary to ensure the consent of all member states when it comes to a new approach to migration and asylum.
Commissioner Johansson said that "this country has a duty to respond to the demands of migration and hence the need to strengthen the capacity of institutions at the level of B&amp;H to better manage migration."
She stressed the need for everyone in this country to bear their share of burden of responsibility when it comes to migration.
Commissioner Johansson visited Bihać and the temporary reception center Lipa yesterday. She said it is obvious that a lot of improvements have been recorded in the meantime, but that the humanitarian crisis from December last year could have been avoided if there had been better capacities and better migration management.
-Migration is a cross-border issue and hence there is need for cooperation across borders between countries. When it comes to migration, the security aspect should not be neglected either. We see organized criminal groups operating across borders and the need to improve the cooperation we have in the field of security- said Commissioner Johansson.
She welcomed the recently reached agreement with Europol, which will enable the improvement of mutual police cooperation.
-I hope that in the coming period we will be able to activate joint operations through another EU agency in charge of borders - Frontex- said Commissioner Johansson.

The Court of B&amp;H made verdict today at 12 o'clock by which Osman Mehmedagić, the director of ISA, and Muhamed Pekić, an employee of this agency, are acquitted of all charges made by Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H.
This verdict was made by Judge Branko Perić in an express deadline, exactly half an hour after the closing arguments of the Prosecutor's Office of B&amp;H and the Defense.
During the explanation of the verdict, Perić said that since the establishment of the Court of B&amp;H, such pressure has not been put on the court as it was in this case.
- I got the impression that the spirit of some politicians hovers over this case - said Perić.

Mehmedagić and Pekić were charged with abuse of office under the indictment of the Prosecution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mehmedagić, as the director of ISA, and Pekić, as the head of the Cyber Security Department at this institution, were accused of unauthorized obtaining of information about the sender of the anonymous report against Mehmedagić. According to the indictment, they found out in an unspecified manner that an anonymous report had been filed, and Pekić, according to Mehmedagić's order to obtain the recording, contacted the director of "B&amp;H Post". They asked for surveillance footage for August 27th, stating that it was a state secret. Čavka stated that the Prosecution had fully proved the allegations in the indictment and that these allegations had been confirmed by the interrogated witnesses.

Today, Prosecutor Čavka proposed to the Court of B&amp;H that Mehmedagić should be sentenced to five years of security measures with the aim of banning him to work and to have access to the classified information.

Repeated elections in Doboj and Srebrenica will be held on Sunday, February 21st, the Central Election Commission of B&amp;H (BiH CEC) reminded today.

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina has decided to hold repeated elections for the Mayor of Doboj and the Assembly of Doboj at 89 polling stations and the Mayor of Srebrenica and the Assembly of Srebrenica at 28 polling stations (26 regular polling stations and two absentee polling stations in Gradačac and Živinice).
Polling stations will be open from 07:00 to 19:00.
Electoral silence begins on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 07.00 and lasts until the closing of polling stations, or until 19.00 on Sunday, February 21st.
In accordance with Article 14.1 of the Election Law of B&amp;H, repeated elections are conducted on the basis of the same candidate lists and the same excerpts from the Central Voters' Register that were used in the annulled elections.
At 89 regular polling stations in the repeated elections in the City of Doboj, 427 presidents and members of polling stations and the same number of their deputies were appointed, while at 26 regular polling stations in Srebrenica 108 presidents and members of polling stations and the same number of their deputies were appointed, and a special Covid-19 mobile team with three members was appointed.
Members of polling boards were also appointed at two absentee polling stations for Srebrenica, in Gradačac and Živinice.
50,615 voters have the right to vote in the repeated elections at 89 polling stations in Doboj.
10,002 voters have the right to vote at 26 regular polling stations in Srebrenica, and 437 voters at two absentee polling stations in Gradačac and Živinice, B&amp;H CEC announced.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

Polling stations will be open from 07:00 to 19:00

Electoral silence begins on Saturday, February 20th, 2021 at 07.00 and lasts until the closing of polling stations, or until 19.00 on Sunday, February 21st
