A Turkish colonel was appointed as the deputy commander of NATO's Sarajevo base in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey announced Friday.
Following the appointment of army Col. Olcay Denizer, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said in a statement that the country's military fulfilled important duties in Bosnia and Herzegovina and noted Sarajevo's efforts to join NATO.
A ceremony at Bosnia's Butmir military post was held to mark the assignment of the deputy command to Turkey.

European plane maker Airbus said Friday that it garnered just 268 net new orders last year, a drop of 65 percent year-on-year reflecting persistent fears about the prospects for air travel amid the coronavirus crisis.
The new orders take into account 115 cancellations as airlines scaled back their ambitions because of uncertainty about how long international travel restrictions will remain in place.
Deliveries of completed Airbus planes also suffered, falling 34 percent to 566 planes last year.

Therefore, it is malicious to link the decision on the selection of applicants with party affiliations, despite the fact that out of seven members of the Management Board, only one comes from SBB.
Also, accusing the FB&amp;H Environmental Protection Fund of air quality in Sarajevo is malicious and tendentious if it is known that the cantons and municipalities are responsible for implementing measures to reduce harmful gas emissions. Regarding the activities of the Fund in this area, the Environmental Protection Fund is an institution that collects environmental fees and places 30 percent of these funds through public calls, after 70 percent is transferred to the cantons, and within these responsibilities deals with air pollution. At the cantonal level, the ministries responsible for the environment are responsible for allocating these 70 percent of funds to local communities.

The popular messaging app WhatsApp asked its some two billion users on Thursday to accept new terms that will allow it to share more information with its parent company Facebook and roll out advertising and e-commerce.
The update sparked criticism among users as they must accept the changes or see their access to the service -- which also allows encrypted voice and video calls -- cut off from February 8.
Facebook aims to monetise WhatsApp by allowing businesses to contact their clients via the platform, even sell them products directly using the service as they already do in India.
"Privacy policy and terms updates are common in the industry and we’re providing users with ample notice to review the changes, which go into effect on February 8th," a Facebook spokesperson said.
"All users need to accept the new terms of service if they want to continue using WhatsApp," added the spokesperson.
The firm said the updated terms will allow additional sharing of information between WhatsApp with Facebook and its other applications such as Instagram and Messenger, such as contacts and profile data, but not the content of messages which remain encrypted.
In the EU and Britain, the new terms only allow for the development of functionalities for professional users of WhatsApp Business, a company spokesman told AFP.
User advocates warned the update was not legal.
"If the only way to refuse (the modification) is to stop using WhatsApp, the the consent is forced as the use of personal data is illegal," said Arthur Messaud, a lawyer for La Quadrature du net, an association that defends internet users.
Facebook has come under increasing pressure from regulators as it tries to integrate its services.
The EU fined US social media giant 110 million euros (then $120 million) for providing incorrect and misleading information about its 2014 takeover of WhatsApp concerning the ability to link accounts between the services.
Federal and state regulators in US have accused Facebook of using its acquisitions of WhatsApp and Instagram to squelch competition and filed antitrust lawsuits last month that aim to force the company to divest them.

News of the surprise Canadian measure left airlines fearful of possible confusion over which testing facilities abroad for the coronavirus were eligible and how the results from the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test must be presented to carriers.
WestJet said on Thursday it could not board the passengers because they did not have eligible tests to meet the new government requirement.
Garneau’s office was not immediately available for comment.
A WestJet spokeswoman said by email the carrier has rebooked the passengers denied boarding on the Thursday morning flight from Cancun to Calgary, but said the “situation further highlights the challenges travellers and our operations are facing” from the new requirements.

As of Wednesday, Canada had reported an additional 8,153 coronavirus cases and 136 deaths.

In the first 11 months of last year, tourists in B&amp;H realized 1,155,033 overnight stays, which is 63.7 percent less compared to the same period in 2019 when 3,181,484 overnight stays were realized.
The number of overnight stays of domestic tourists was lower by 20.8 percent, while the number of overnight stays of foreign tourists was lower by 80.1 percent compared to the same period in 2019. The share of domestic tourists in the total number of overnight stays was 60.4 percent, while the share of foreign tourists was 39.6 percent, according to the B&amp;H Statistics Agency.
In the period January - November 2020, most overnight stays were realized by tourists from Serbia (28.4 percent), Croatia (25.2 percent), Slovenia (4.8 percent), United Arab Emirates (4, 4 percent), Turkey (3.5 percent), Germany (3.1 percent) and Montenegro (3.0 percent), for a total of 72.4 percent. Tourists from other countries accounted for 27.6 percent of overnight stays.

The Women's Network of B&amp;H expresses concern over the unsystematic and ad-hoc crisis management related to the stay of people on the move (migrants, refugees and asylum seekers) in B&amp;H.

Facebook banned President Donald Trump from the platform "indefinitely" due to his efforts to incite violence at the US Capitol, chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said Thursday.
Zuckerberg said the 24-hour ban announced Wednesday on Trump's accounts including on Instagram was extended because of Trump's "use of our platform to incite violent insurrection against a democratically elected government."
The Facebook CEO added: "The shocking events of the last 24 hours clearly demonstrate that President Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in office to undermine the peaceful and lawful transition of power to his elected successor, Joe Biden."
The announcement came the day after the outgoing US leader was locked out of all major social media platforms due to his false claims about the legitimacy of his loss to Biden, and for inciting the angry mob that stormed the US Capitol.
-We believe the risks of allowing the president to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great- Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook page.
"Therefore, we are extending the block we have placed on his Facebook and Instagram accounts indefinitely and for at least the next two weeks until the peaceful transition of power is complete."
Trump's favorite megaphone, Twitter, blocked him for 12 hours, but it was unclear Thursday if the ban had been lifted.
US Senator Mark Warner, a Democrat representing Virginia, said moves by Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to address Trump's "sustained misuse of their platforms to sow discord and violence" had come too late.
-These platforms have served as core organizing infrastructure for violent, far right groups and militia movements for several years now- said the senator, who is the incoming Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
An activist group that formed a mock Facebook oversight board lamented that it took an insurrection for the social network to finally ban Trump.

Twitter said Trump's messages were violations of the platform's rules on civic integrity and that any future violations "will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account."
The messaging platform said Trump's account would be locked for 12 hours and that if the offending tweets were not removed, "the account will remain locked."
Critics of the online platforms argued they moved too slowly as Wednesday's violence was organized on social media, directing their ire at Zuckerberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

Marketing agency "FabCat Creative", owned by Jasmina Izetbegović, daughter of the first man of the SDA Bakir Izetbegović and director of UCCS Sebija Izetbegović, according to reported data in the last ten years has generated total revenues of about 1,098,995 KM, with only one employee.
Only in 2015., when the income of 236,834 KM was realized, the company had two employees. According to the available data, this company, which does not even have an active website, received direct jobs from state-owned companies. Information is available according to which the public companies "Sarajevogas" and "Rad", which are under the direct control of the SDA, hired Izetbegović's daughter.
Although these are relatively smaller amounts, up to 6,000 KM, which can be implemented without public announcement of the procurement, these contracts confirm the pattern that some SDA officials are secretly talking about. Namely, some of them presented cases in which Izetbegović directly or through an intermediary sought jobs for Jasmina. The "Akta" portal recently published information about the business of Izetbegović's daughter's company, which still has one employee.
- Although she tries to avoid her father's influence, judging by the financial reports, her agency has strengthened as Bakir's political career has grown - Akta portal stated.

Particularly interesting are the data related to the company's profit. Although in 2011. it amounted to only 10,000 KM, the total profit by the end of 2019. increased to 585,129 KM.
Thus, in 2011., the agency earned from the initial 46,636 KM, with a profit of about 10,000 KM, and in 2012. the revenue almost doubled to 84,7632 KM.
- In the election years, the income increased again to 166,130 KM, and in the following years it will be even better and amount to more than 200,000 KM, with a profit of over 150,000 KM - the portal Akta.ba recently announced.
When it comes to 2017. and 2018., income and profit are falling, and that is happening especially in 2019., when they amounted to only 54,289. KM.
However, the Akta.ba portal claims that this did not prevent the owner of this agency from, despite the weaker business, affording a 117.63-square-meter property in Bolnička Street in Sarajevo.
The price of a square meter in a newly built building, as stated by this portal, is 4,500 - 5,000 KM, so she had to pay almost half a million KM for this apartment, if she bought at those prices.
In addition, as stated, Jasmina Izetbegović is also the owner of a 66-square-meter apartment, which in 2014 was paid 141,777 KM.
