Russia hit two S-300 defense systems belonging to Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

- Two S-300 air defense missile launch systems and radars were destroyed near Shpilevka in the Sumi region - said ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov.
Russian air combat tactical units targeted 32 more areas where Ukrainian soldiers and technical vehicles were located, he added.
- To date, 165 aircraft, 125 helicopters, 879 unmanned aerial vehicles, 306 air defense missile systems, 3,098 tanks and armored vehicles, 381 multi-barrel rocket launchers, 1,525 howitzers and mortars, and 2,934 special military vehicles belonging to the Ukrainian army have been destroyed - said Konashenkov.
At least 3,573 people have been killed and 3,816 injured since Russia launched the war on Ukraine on Feb. 24, according to UN estimates. The true toll is feared to be much higher.
Over 6.1 million people have fled to other countries, with some 7.7 million people internally displaced, according to the UN refugee agency.

Somali lawmakers from both houses of parliament who gathered in a hangar inside heavily fortified Mogadishu International Airport elected Hassan Sheikh Mohamud as president Sunday, defeating incumbent President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, also known as Farmajo.

Mohamud, who was Mohamed’s immediate predecessor as president, won 214 out of 327 votes.
The incumbent president received 110 votes, while three votes disqualified, according to Somali parliament speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nuur Madobe, who announced the election results.
The election has been very tense and saw three rounds and 36 candidates contesting.
Mohamed conceded, saying: “I thank all of the members of parliament who voted for me and those who did not vote for me.”
Mohamud was sworn in minutes after the results were announced and thanked his predecessor for transferring power to him peacefully.

Reintroducing a controversial measure from Afghanistan’s 1995-2001 Taliban rule, the interim Taliban regime on Saturday issued a decree barring women from leaving their homes without wearing the burqa, a garment that covers them from head to toe.

The interim Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice unveiled a draft law on the garment which was approved by a decree signed by Mawlawi Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s supreme leader.

Under the decree, any garment covering a woman’s body is acceptable provided that it is not too tight or thin so as to reveal her body, ministry spokesman Akif Muhajir told Anadolu Agency by phone from Kabul, Afghanistan's capital.

The acceptable garment "covers the entire body," he said, adding that this law is binding on girls who have reached puberty, which can be anywhere from 10 to 13 years old, in line with the girl's development.
The Taliban see the burqa as the oldest traditional attire and the best garment for women, and when they ruled Afghanistan from 1995 to 2001, they also enforced a requirement that women wear burqas.
If women civil servants do not respect the reintroduced law, they will be fired, said Muhajir, adding: "They will be given warnings in the first phase, but if they do not follow the law, they will be dismissed."
He said the same requirement will be enforced in educational institutions, which have been closed since the Taliban retook power last August, prompting the US to withdraw troops ahead of schedule.

<h2>The media is to publicize the law</h2>

Several protests were held in various parts of the country before the Taliban's formation of an interim government seeking a guarantee of equal rights for women. However, the Taliban later banned rallies without prior authorization.

Asked about foreign countries raising concerns about restrictions on women's freedom, Muhajir tried to turn the question around, saying that if no one is raising any questions about bans in Western countries on Muslim face coverings, they do not have the right to question the Taliban making burqas compulsory.
Such bans on Muslim headscarves have been proposed in several European countries, including France.
Under the new Taliban measure, the media is to publicize the law, including its importance and purported benefits, as well as the disadvantages of not wearing burqas.
In phase two, the male guardians of any uncovered woman will be instructed and penalized.
If there are repeated violations, the guardian will be summoned to the relevant department before being taken to court, which will decide on punishment.

Germany will continue its military support to help Ukraine defend itself against Russia, Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Thursday.

Speaking at a joint news conference in Berlin with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Scholz said the two countries will expand their defense cooperation, and supply Soviet-made heavy weapons to Ukraine.
- We agree with my counterpart that we must now fully support Ukraine, and our assistance should also include supplying weapons to help the country defend itself against Russian aggression - he said.
Scholz said as part of a "ring exchange" mechanism, Czech Republic will deliver Soviet-made weapons to Ukraine, which can be quickly deployed by the Ukrainian military, without the need for special training.
In return, Germany will supply weapons to Czech Republic in order to fill the gap, he added.
The German chancellor declined to give any details about the planned arms deliveries to Ukraine, and said talks are ongoing between defense ministries of the two countries.

Turkiye is ready to provide support to UN-led work on Humanitarian Contact Group, evacuations, and humanitarian, Erdogan told the UN chief, the statement added.

Russia on Sunday said it destroyed weapons supplied to Ukraine by the US and European countries and a runway at a military airfield near Odessa.

High-precision Onyx missiles were used to strike the airfield, according to a Russian Defense Ministry statement.
Two Ukrainian Su-24M bomber jets were downed in the Kharkov region, while two S-300 air defense systems were wrecked near Zaporizhzhia and Artemovsk, the statement said.
Two Ukrainian Tochka-U ballistic missiles and 12 unmanned aerial vehicles were also shot down in different areas, it said.
Seven Ukrainian military assets were hit overnight, including four areas of manpower and military equipment concentration, as well as three missile and artillery weapons and ammunition depots, the ministry said.

- In total, since the beginning of the special military operation, 145 aircraft, 112 helicopters, 672 unmanned aerial vehicles, 281 air defense systems, 2,703 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, 312 multiple rocket launchers, 1,203 field artillery and mortar guns, as well as 2,514 units of special military vehicles have been destroyed - read the statement.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday held talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan as part of his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Turkish security forces have "neutralized" 56 terrorists in the recently launched Operation Claw-Lock in northern Iraq, the country’s National Defense Ministry said.

- Our operation continues as planned with great success. We wish God's mercy upon our martyrs - said National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar at a meeting via video link with the unit commanders of the operation on Sunday.
Akar added that the first phase of the operation has completed successfully.
Stating that a new phase started in the fight against terrorism on July 24, 2015, Akar said a total of 34,259 terrorists have been neutralized in Turkiye, and northern Iraq and Syria so far.
Since the beginning of this year, the number of terrorists neutralized has reached 991, he added.&nbsp;Turkiye launched Operation Claw-Lock earlier this week to target PKK hideouts in Iraq’s Metina, Zap and Avasin-Basyan areas.That was preceded by Operations Claw-Tiger and Claw-Eagle, which were launched in 2020 to root out terrorists who hide in northern Iraq and plot cross-border attacks in Turkiye.
In its more than 35-year terror campaign against Turkiye, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkiye, the US, and European Union -- has been responsible for the deaths of at least 40,000 people, including women, children and infants.
In a related development, Turkiye's Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Guler met with his Albanian counterpart Maj. Gen. Bajram Begaj in the Turkish capital Ankara on Monday.

The death toll after the disappearance of a tour boat in Japan increased to 11 on Monday, while rescuers continue efforts to find 15 more missing passengers.

The Japan Coast Guard confirmed the death of a 3-year-old girl, who was found at a location where she had "likely drifted due to the wind and tide," Kyodo News reported.
The boat carrying 26 passengers, including two children and a two-member crew, went missing in rough waters on Saturday.

The Russian Defense Ministry claimed on Monday that the Ukrainian special services are planning to shell Orthodox churches and temples on Easter night, Saturday.

As part of measures against possible provocations, over 70 mobile groups in vehicles equipped with mortars are formed in Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions, the ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said at a daily briefing in Moscow.

<h2>The artillery hit 315 objects of Ukraine's military infrastructure</h2>

Konashenkov added that the Russian army continued striking Ukraine's military infrastructure on Sunday night and hit 16 military objects with high-precision air-based missiles, in addition to five command points, one fuel storage, and three ammunition depots.

The Russian Aerospace Forces struck 108 areas of concentration of personnel and Ukrainian military equipment, including eight tanks and other armored vehicles, while an unmanned aerial vehicle of Ukraine was shot down by an air-to-air missile in the Buda area, he noted.
The Strategic Rocket Forces struck with high-precision ground-based Iskander missiles four ammunition and military equipment depots, as well as three areas of concentration of Ukrainian manpower, the spokesman added.
The artillery hit 315 objects of Ukraine's military infrastructure, including 18 control points, 22 artillery batteries, the OSA-AKM air defense system, as well as 275 strong points.
